Suicide Prevention Month – Sept 24

September 2024: Suicide Prevention Month at Green Hat Consulting

September is recognised globally as Suicide Prevention Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about mental health and preventing suicide. At Green Hat Consulting, we are committed to supporting the well-being of our workforce, especially in the construction industry, where mental health challenges are often overlooked.

Mental Health Awareness in Construction

This month, Green Hat Consulting will be presenting a comprehensive Mental Health Awareness in Construction presentation to all site workers. Our goal is to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health issues and provide valuable resources and support to those in need.

Why Focus on Construction?

The construction industry faces unique challenges that can significantly impact mental health. Long hours, physically demanding work, job insecurity, and a culture that often discourages discussing personal struggles contribute to high stress levels. Tragically, this has led to alarming statistics: two construction workers commit suicide every day.

Mental Health in Construction - Suicide Prevention Month

Our Objectives:

Raise Awareness: Educate workers about the importance of mental health and the common issues faced in the construction industry.

Reduce Stigma: Encourage open conversations about mental health to create a supportive and understanding work environment.

Provide Resources: Offer information on where and how to seek help, including counselling services, hotlines, and support groups.

Promote Self-Care: Share strategies for managing stress, such as mindfulness, exercise, and healthy work-life balance.

Presentation Highlights:

Understanding Mental Health: An overview of mental health, common disorders, and their impact on daily life.

Recognising the Signs: How to identify signs of mental distress in yourself and others.

Support Systems: Information on available resources and how to access them.

Personal Stories: Testimonials from individuals who have overcome mental health challenges, providing hope and inspiration.

Interactive Sessions: Opportunities for workers to ask questions, share experiences, and engage in discussions.

Join Us in Making a Difference

We believe that by addressing mental health openly and compassionately, we can make a significant difference in the lives of our workers. Together, we can create a safer, more supportive environment where everyone feels valued and understood.

Let’s work together to break the silence and support each other. Remember, it’s okay to ask for help, and it’s okay to talk about mental health.
