Should a person’s disability determine whether they live or die?
Simply put, this is the question to ask when planning a Fire Strategy for any building that will house vulnerable people. Buildings that will house vulnerable people should address this question and embed it into the design process at outset.
A “person-centered” approach is needed from concept & design to construction and for the lifecycle of the building. In addition to the building fire strategy, a Person-centered Fire Risk Assessment (PCFRA) should be carried out for each individual and the building itself.
